ECOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT




Cerro Punta is inmerse in a privileged region, in terms of natural beauty and spectacular biodiversity. Despite that a part of the valleys are destined to agricultural production, the rest of the mountains are still covered by a rich layer of forest, origin of numerous rivers that descend in the direction of the central plains of the Province, bringing life along their courses to the ecosystems, the animals, the plants and, of course, to many communities that depend of the vital liquid.


NATIONAL PARKS AND NATURAL RESERVES


PARQUE INTERNACIONAL LA AMISTAD (Friendship International Park)
- A binational (Panama-Costa Rica) natural reserve in the mountains of the provinces of Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro, in the panamanian side. La Amistad is also part of the Biosphera Reserve, with the same name, that includes other parks of Chiriqui and Bocas del Toro provinces.

PARQUE NACIONAL VOLCAN BARU (Baru Volcano National Park)
- The core of this reserve is the highest mountain of Panama: the Baru Volcano. It is also part of the Biosphera Reserve mentionned before.


ENVIRONMENT RELATED GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS


AUTORIDAD NACIONAL DEL AMBIENTE - Environment National Authority (ANAM)
It is the government agency taking care of the Natural Reserves and the protection of the land environments including ecosystems and animals.

AUTORIDAD DEL TURISMO DE PANAMA - Tourism Panamanian Authority (ATP)
It is the govenrment agency taking care of the Tourism businesses and resources for the development of the industry. It is related with the environment through ANAM.


NON GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATIONS (NGOs)


ASOCIACION NACONAL PARA LA CONSERVACON DE LA NATURALEZA - National Asociation for the Nature Conservation (ANCON)
It is one of the oldest environmental organizations of the country. With base in Panama City, ANCON works for the protection of nature through the whole national territory.

FUNDACION PARA EL DESARROLLO INTEGRAL COMUNITARIO Y CONSERVACION DE ECOSISTEMAS DE PANAMA - Foundation for the Community Development and Ecosystems Conservation of Panama - (FUNDICEP)
